The typical Bahia candies are delicious! Famous for their irresistible flavor and aroma, they ended up conquering the heart of Brazil! These treats, as well as all the local cuisine, have many indigenous, European, and African influences.

They bring a bit of the state's culture through the palate. With that in mind, we prepared a list of 5 candies from Bahia for you to try on your trip to Costa do Sauípe. Check it out!

1.Mungunzá

Known in other areas of the country as hominy or canjicão, Mungunzá is one of Bahia's typical candies. Of African origin, its name refers to its origins, which means cooked corn in the Angolan language
.

In addition to being a tasty sweet typical of Bahia, mungunzá is easy to prepare, consisting of corn, sugar, butter, milk and cinnamon. Its slightly sweet flavor enchanted the four corners of the country and dessert also became one of the typical dishes of the June Festival.

2. Quindim de Yaiá

Of
Portuguese origin, Quindim de Yaiá is a typical dessert from Bahia that has conquered the palate of Brazilians. The recipe for this egg-based delicacy was brought to Brazil during colonial times and, over time, it underwent some adaptations until it reached the sweet
we have today.

The European recipe used almonds, rather than coconut, giving the treat a more almondy and less sweet flavor. However, in the absence of this ingredient in Brazilian lands, grated coconut was added to the recipe. The result was one of the most popular Bahian candies in the state.

3. Sweet rice

has its origin in Asian lands and is prepared only with sugar and milk. The delicacy arrived in Brazil with the Portuguese and, over time, like Quindim, it ended up undergoing some adaptations. Here, the preference was to replace milk and sugar with condensed milk and cinnamon.

This delicious adaptation transformed the treat into one of Bahia's typical candies, becoming the flagship of the June Festival in the four corners of the country. Rice pudding is made with rice cooked in milk, sugar, condensed milk, and cinnamon.

4. Babe de moça

Another Portuguese heritage is drool de moça, a simple and delicious dessert prepared with egg yolks, coconut milk and condensed milk. This is one of the recipes for typical Bahia sweets that are delicious and simple to make.

There is a lot of controversy over the origin of the name drool as a girl. The main one is that the treat did not have a name here, in Brazilian lands, and was nicknamed after that expression because of Princess Isabel's preference for the delicacy, symbolizing the princess's
sweet and gentle way.

5. Cocada

Cocada is one of the typical sweets in Bahia. Sweet and crunchy, it is believed that it arrived in Brazilian lands through enslaved people, who came from their homeland with dessert. Over the years, cocada conquered the palate of Portuguese and Brazilians, becoming
a traditional Bahian dessert.

Today, in addition to the traditional version, made with condensed milk, sugar and grated coconut, it is possible to find other recipes with passion fruit, chocolate, strawberries and many others.
